Powder, Technical Terrain and Moose.....the full New Hampshire experience. This lesser known neighbor of the infamous Tuckerman Ravine delivers awe-inspiring views, and a combination of steep bowl riding followed by a technical 3 mile ride out on this classic New England ski trail.
The early ride north was worth the effort, with the roads completely clear the drive from Boston took less than 1hr 45min. First tracks were fantastic and Sunapee had left many runs un-groomed which made for great late season trail and glade powder runs. Skiing this good in April (so close to Boston) was a welcome surprise, the only requirement was to a 6 AM start to get first tracks. Hey Sunapee, Spring Called...She's Gonna Be Late!

The final push was a snow covered 100m, 45-degree climb, revealing fantastic 360-degree via snow free granite slab. The 80MPH gusts only added to the ruggedness of the scenery. This combination of frigid wind, blue skies, and endless views clears the mind of unimportant day to day minutia. The raw wilderness binds you to the present!
Lunchtime has two purposes. One, fill the body furnace we call a gullet and two get outside to fill the mind with thoughts of wilderness and exploration. With a break in the recent onslaught of snow and an upcoming winter ascent on Mt. Chocorua, snowshoeing occupied the mind.
